Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long are the telephone classes (teleclasses)?
A: You should allow two hours for the teleclass (as per government regulation). A break is scheduled mid-way in each class. You call in at the appointed hour on the toll free number with the code you are provided. The instructor will take the roll in the first few minutes of the class, again in the middle and at the end. Make sure the instructor calls your name and notes you are present for each roll call.
Q: How long will it take to do the Online Course?
A: The Personal Financial Management Course has timers to enforce a two hour class period (as per government regulation). You may complete it all in one setting or by module. There are four modules and you can leave the course and return to finish at the end of any module. You receive an Enrollment ID number when you register to allow you to return to the course. You enter the Enrollment ID at the bottom left of any page at the website. If you are seeking a certificate, you must complete all four modules.
Q: I filed Chapter 13, do I have to pay for a Personal Financial Management Course?
A: Not necessarily. Both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 debtors must take a Personal Financial Management Course and receive a certificate to get a discharge. Some Chapter 13 trustees offer a free course to Chapter 13 debtors who filed in their division. If you are a Chapter 13 debtor, check with your Chapter 13 trustee's office for more information. You may receive a class free of charge from 02 Certificate Class if your household income is at or below the poverty guidelines as set out by Health and Human Services (HHS) issued by the federal government (2009). Call our office to discuss whether or not you qualify for this fee waiver.
Q: Do I have to take a test at the end of this class?
A: No, you will not be tested. If you are seeking a certificate, the only requirement is that you attend for the full class session. In the telephone class the instructor takes roll at the beginning, some time in the middle and again at the end to make sure you are present. For the online course, you must complete all four modules.
Q: Do you accept debit cards or credit cards or e-checks?
A: Yes, at this website we accept credit or debit cards. For e-checks, call us at (888) 533-3423. You can also speak with one of our staff about mailing a money order or personal check. We also accept Paypal.
Q: How do I get my Certificate?
A: After you have completed the course, we will send a copy of your certificate to you and if you are represented by an attorney and would like this attorney to receive a copy of your certificate, please give us your attorney's name, phone number and/or attorney code if one has been provided to you.
Q: How quickly can I get my Certificate?
A: Certificates are issued during business hours (9:00a - 5:00p CST M-F, 9:00a - 1:00p Sat). Our policy is to issue certificates no later than the next business morning after the course is completed (12:00 noon CST). If you’re facing a deadline i.e., you must have your certificate the same day you complete the course, call our HOT LINE (888) 533-3423 before registering and make arrangements with one of our staff. If you do not communicate with our office before registering and taking the course online, we cannot guarantee you will receive your certificate the same day you complete the course.
